Sunday, October 20, 2019: Moving Day; So Long Bar Harbor, Hello Boston; Sushi in Portland; Italian in Boston

Drank too much last night. This morning we are packing up and leaving for Boston. The Mein Schiff cruise boat is gone and replaced by a MSC cruise boat.

Had to light the fire at least once before leaving. Looks good!

Yesterday we visited the sand bar connecting Mt Desert Island to Bar Island. It was just after high tide and there was no bar to be seen. This morning, before leaving town, we stopped and verified there is a sand bar connecting to the two islands.

We finally got on the road about 11:30 am. The drive is expected to take about five hours. Once we get to Boston, we will drop the rental car off at the airport and take a cab to the Airbnb.

We stopped at a Portland sushi spot for a late lunch.

We drove through the sliver of New Hampshire separating Maine from Massachusetts. Probably not in New Hampshire for more than 20 minutes or so.

We arrived at Logan International and dropped off the car. Then got an Uber and got to the Airbnb. Nice place!

Shortly after arriving, Maria's brother Jose arrived and we went to a small Italian restaurant for dinner. Jose is really pleasant young gentleman and it was obvious that Maria was very proud of him.

I had the veal Saltimabocca. Probably the best I've ever had!!

They didn't serve any desert at the restruante but directed us to their sister cafe across the street. Maria had a coconut gelato, Jose had a cheese cake and I had an Irish Whiskey. This place was almost a museum of old Espresso makers.

We hailed another Uber to get us back to the Airbnb and to take Jose on to his home.

Saturday, October 19, 2019: Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse; Auto Museum; Lobster

We arose to a beautifully clear, cool and sunny morning. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and started off to see the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse on the southern tip of the island. It was a nice scenic drive. The Trip Advisor  reviews made the lighthouse sound very interesting. It turned out to be not so interesting and much less impressive than we had hoped.

Maria decided on the next stop and kept it as a surprise. This was the auto museum in Seal Cove. This was very interesting and a remarkable collection of unique vehicles. Coincidentally, they were preparing the museum for a wedding to be held that afternoon and were setting up tables, chairs and chilling down multiple bottles of Champagne. https://www.sealcoveautomuseum.org/

They even had the original true Great Race car (https://www.sealcoveautomuseum.org/collection-test/1912-thomas-flyer/)

Back to Bar Harbor in search of lobster. We settled in the West St. Cafe for the next several hours.

I had the seafood melody and Maria the lobster. Hers turned out to be a bit dangerous. When she was crushing one of the claws, it exploded and a large lobster shrapnel almost got me in the eye. Fortunately, I had a class of gin and tonic up to my mouth which took the majority of the impact.

We had dinner reservations at the hotel, so about 3:30 pm we decided to head back. We first walked over to the sand bar connecting Mt Desert Island to Bar Island. High tide was just after 3:00 pm so the sand bar was under water, but we saw where it should be. We will try to remember to check it again on the way out tomorrow.

We had a series of small plates at the bar, including a cheese platter, foie gras, squab and Maine oysters. We might have had more, but neither of us could remember.
