Tuesday, October 22, 2019: Boston, Freedom Trail, Prudential Building, oysters

Didn't get going until about 11:00 am. We took an Uber to where we stopped on the Freedom Trail yesterday, at Paul Revere's Museum and the Old North Church where he hung the laterines to announce "The British Are Coming".

Outside the Old North Church was a memorial garden.

The Freedom Trail is marked by a double row of red bricks in the sidewalk.

The Battle of Bunker Hill was actually fought on Breeds Hill because, despite orders to fortify Bunker Hill, Army Officers decided to fortify Breeds Hill instead. Even though the majority of the fighting took place on Breeds Hill, the battle will forever be known as the Battle of Bunker Hill.

It was 294 circular stairway steps to the top. We decided to just enjoy the exterior of the memorial.

The last stop on the Freedom Trail was the USS Constitution anchored in Boston Bay. Unfortunately, starting TODAY!!!, the ship is closed to visitors on Monday's AND Tuesday's (before today, it had been closed on Monday's only).

It was going on 2:30 pm and time for lunch. Maria found an attractive lobster place, Neptune's. So we hailed an Uber and got there in no time. There was quite a line and we were told it would be probably a 45 minute wait. We walked down the street and found a sushi bar to have a drink and wait. We had just ordered our drinks and a light snack when the Neptune placed called to say our table was ready, it had been only 10 minutes. We canceled our sushi order and went back to Neptune's.

We started with two each of 12 different local oysters, a couple of crab claws and a couple of tins of California White Sturgeon Caviar.

The first oyster serving.

The caviar was extremely good. It cost $59/oz. We were so impressed with it that, when we got back to the flat, I looked up the company with the intention of ordering some. They do sell on-line, but interestingly, the same ounce tin, which cost us $59 at Neptune's, can be ordered on-line for $95.

Having gone through two dozen oysters, we were ready for the entree. Maria got the lobster roll and I tried, for the first time, the sea urchin on toast. Both were delicious and I'm a sea urchin fan now.

For desert, a second oyster tray. We dropped the crab claws and added some raw clams.

Our last stop of the day was the Prudential Building to see the City from the observation deck on the 50th floor.

It was a 12 minute walk from the Prudential Building back to our flat. Then it was time to rest. Tomorrow, we check out of the Boston flat and take a 1:00 pm train to NYC where we will stay in another Airbnb for the next three days.

The trip so far has been truly delightful. Lots accomplished, but also very relaxing with no schedules to meet. Maria has done an outstanding job of planning and organizing it.
